FESTIVAL OF AFRICAN CULTURE AND CUISINE (FestACC®)

Purpose

-Celebrating Culture, Community & Belonging

To create Dundee’s first large-scale African cultural celebration during the festive season. The event will showcase African heritage through arts, crafts, food, displays, and storytelling — inviting the wider Dundee community to connect, celebrate, and build lasting intercultural bonds.

Objectives

  • Reduce isolation for African migrants during the winter festive season.
  • Provide a platform to showcase African heritage and creativity.
  • Build community spirit by engaging 150–250 people across cultures.
  • Pilot an annual festival that can grow into a signature Dundee event.

Objectives:

Key Activities:

* Cultural stalls and displays (African crafts, fabrics, traditions).
* Food tasting stations with dishes from across African regions.
* Storytelling and interactive children’s activities.
* Light-themed installations using African fabrics and symbols.
* Community “memory wall” where attendees share messages of belonging.

Target Audience:

African and Caribbean families in Dundee, the wider Black community, and local Dundee residents interested in multicultural experiences.

Expected Outcomes:

* 150–250 attendees engaged.
* Stronger sense of cultural pride and visibility for African communities.
* Increased understanding and integration across communities.
* Evidence and feedback to support sustainability of an annual festival.
