Afro-Caribbean Summer Adventure (ASA) Dundee 2025
Purpose
The Afro-Caribbean Summer Adventure (ASA) is a pilot wellbeing and integration programme that uses outdoor and cultural activities to reduce social isolation, strengthen community bonds, and support employability among Dundee’s Black migrant population.The project responds directly to expressed needs from Rare Breed Men Tribe’s March 2025 survey, where Black residents highlighted strong interest in outdoor activities, sports, wellness support, and networking.
Sessions will vary in length from 90 minutes to a full day, keeping the programme dynamic and engaging.
Objectives
- Reduce isolation by creating inclusive, enjoyable group activities.
- Promote equality of access by ensuring Black residents feel welcome in cultural and recreational spaces.
- Improve wellbeing (physical, mental, and emotional) through active participation.
- Support employability with workshops and signposting to services.
- Challenge barriers of discrimination by normalising Black presence in Dundee’s outdoor and cultural spaces.

Activities
Participants will engage in a rotating schedule of outdoor and cultural activities, such as:
- Archery, bush craft, tree climbing, indoor climbing, hill walking, skiing, and sledging (Ancrum Outdoor Centre & Adventure Carrick).
- Bowling, table tennis, laser tag, and pool (Tenpin Dundee).
- Cultural visits to the V&A Dundee exhibitions and activities.
- Group support sessions on employability, wellbeing, and resilience.


Beneficiaries
- Direct beneficiaries: 15–20 Black migrants per week (approx. 100–150 over the project period).
- Indirect beneficiaries: Families, employers, and the wider Dundee community through improved social cohesion and visibility of Black communities in shared spaces.
Outcomes
- Increased sense of belonging and inclusion for Black migrants in Dundee.
- Reduction in feelings of loneliness, discrimination, and exclusion.
- Improved mental and physical wellbeing of participants.
- Enhanced employability outcomes through connections to Enable Works and Dundee City Council employability officers.
- Creation of data, testimonials, and evidence to support future scaling and sustainability.
